AI in Art: Completing AI Art Projects in High School

Are you interested in learning more about the influence of AI in art. I will be giving an overview of what AI is, how AI relates to the arts, and projects that can be completed in the Arts using AI.

What is AI?

To start, what exactly is AI?

AI, or artificial intelligence, is a branch of computer science that uses machine learning. AI systems process labeled training data and analyze it for patterns. Then, the data is used to create prediction models.

As stated by SearchEnterpriseAI, AI programming focuses on three skills: learning, reasoning, and self-correction. The learning process is based on acquiring data and creating a set of guidelines, or algorithms, for it. These algorithms give the system instructions on how to complete specific tasks.

The reasoning process focuses on choosing the correct algorithm to reach a result, and the correction process is designed to rectify the algorithm in order to get results with a higher accuracy.

Advantages and Disadvantages of AI

Some advantages to artificial intelligence are that it is good at completing detail-oriented jobs, reduces the amount of time it takes to complete data-heavy results, and it delivers consistent results.

For example, AI can be used in healthcare through improving patient outcomes and reducing the cost of their treatment. Also, machine learning can be applied to healthcare to diagnose patients faster.

On the other hand, some disadvantages to AI are that it can be expensive, it may take away jobs from other people, and there is a limited amount of qualified workers to build AI related systems.

Some applications of artificial intelligence include systems such as natural language processing, speech recognition, and machine vision.

These systems can be used to create products such as self-driving cars, smart assistants such as Siri or Alexa, and Netflix Recommendations.

AI in Art

Now this poses a question.

As a high-school student who is interested in AI in art, how can I use AI?

Artificial intelligence can be used to create images in a generated art form called algorithmic art. Like stated earlier, data is trained to follow a set of rules. Instead in art, the algorithms are trained to learn specific aesthetics after analyzing thousands of images.

Artists are able to express themselves without having to go through the process of creating artwork. An advantage to this new system is that artists no longer need to spend time and money on drawing or painting.

As stated by Towards Data Science “artistic creation can be seen as a way of creating an innovative work from an individual’s interpretation of his or her existence and environment.” Essentially, there is now a bridge between the art and science fields.

Now, after learning all of this information, what are projects that you can complete with AI in art? The answer is, that is totally up to you! There have been various projects ranging from all backgrounds of interest in art. With AI, you can let your imagination run free.
