Victor’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at Stanford
Victor Chen is currently an undergraduate student at Stanford University studying Computer Science. Before getting admitted to Stanford, Victor was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“AI Scholars was my first introduction to AI, sparking my passion for the field and setting me on my current path. It gave me a foundation in machine learning and problem-solving, which shaped my academic interests and led me to pursue AI and computer vision in college.”
“My AI Scholars project helped me gain introductory research experience and develop foundational technical skills that were useful in later internships. It gave me more confidence in exploring AI, leading me to take an interest in computer vision and machine learning. The experience also introduced me to new ideas and perspectives in the field.”
Nina’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computational Neuroscience at Harvard
Nina Khera is currently an undergraduate student at Harvard University studying Computational Neuroscience. Before getting admitted to Harvard, Nina was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“I learned about my interest in AI partially due to the program, which caused me to do more work in coding later on. I think both the program and this later work caused me to become more of a competitive applicant for college. Also, I felt that the experience of carrying out a full project from start to finish was super valuable - I learned about troubleshooting, time management, and so much more.”
“My experience with AI as part of this program helped me learn the necessary skills to do later AI-focused internships, research, and so much more. I got asked tough AI-focused questions on my interviews, and the knowledge I gained from Inspirit AI helped me answer them. I also think that the signaling of having a program like this on my resume helped me prove my credibility to interviewers.”
Eric’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Math and Artificial Intelligence at MIT
Eric Noriega is currently an undergraduate student at MIT studying Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics. Before getting admitted to MIT, Eric was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program in Winter 2021.
“Inspirit AI has made for interesting conversation during internship interviews. The experience is pertinent to the positions I have applied for.” Since completing the Inspirit AI program, Eric has had 2 research internships as a data science intern at Nasdaq and a software engineering intern at Capital One.
“I mentioned Inspirit AI in my college essays, which really tailored my application to the fields I was interested in… Your essays are the ‘pages’ in your ‘book’ - what do you want colleges to know about you? Your ‘book’ should tell them who you are, who you want to become, and how that college will help you get there.”
Andrew’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at Princeton
Andrew Cho is currently an undergraduate student at Princeton studying Computer Science. Before getting admitted to Princeton, Andrew was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“The AI Scholars program was pivotal in my choice to pursue a major in Computer Science, especially to explore AI further. Learning technical skills in machine learning from a knowledgeable mentor opened my eyes to the possibilities of my major in impacting various areas of society from criminal justice to healthcare. These skills, from coding to being resourceful, provided the necessary foundation for future coding projects.”
“The AI Scholars project honed on what type of projects and ideas I wanted to pursue, and motivated me to continue exploring AI in areas like healthcare, finance, and productivity through research opportunities. It was the critical kickstart to my career to pursue more AI and CS related opportunities.”
Leslie’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science and Psychology at Yale
Leslie Kim is currently an undergraduate student at Yale studying Computer Science and Psychology. Before getting admitted to Yale, Leslie was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“The AI Scholars program introduced me to an entirely different field of programming. Through it, I gained an understanding of the programming and mathematical techniques used to uncover relationships in data. The program provided a background into this industry that has helped me discuss AI in policy and learn about AI in my classes.”
“The AI Scholars project showed me from start to finish how to create a model that takes in a large amount of data and applies mathematical and statistical techniques to be able to classifying unseen data. This was incredible to do as a high schooler and important to understand now. I particularly enjoyed the conversation around ethics and inequalities present in big data.”
Eva’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at Columbia University
Eva Georgaklis is currently an undergraduate student at Columbia University studying Computer Science and Applied Math. Before getting admitted to Columbia University, Eva was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“My AI Scholars program equipped me well to start my career journey in tech. I had zero experience coming into the program, and I left the program with python experience, a new project on my resume, and more confidence to take on coding challenges and immerse myself in more computer science opportunities. It really gave me a headstart when applying to internships and college because it showed schools I was curious to code outside of school and worked on a real, hands-on project. It also taught me more about the process of a large engineering project and the emphasis on collaboration and trial and error.”
“I completed the Inspirit AI Program going into my senior year of High School. I was then accepted into Columbia Engineering that fall. The following summer, I was a Computer Science Summer Institute Scholar at Google. My freshman year at Columbia, my relevant coursework was Java, Data Structures in Java, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra. I also began interning at a Startup downtown called Light RFP. The following summer, I was a Software Engineer Intern at the National Museum of Mathematics. Then, in my Sophomore year at Columbia, my relevant coursework has been Advanced Programming in C, Python, and Probability and Stats for Engineers. This coming summer, I will be a Technology Consulting Intern at PwC.”
Clarice’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at University of Pennsylvania
Clarice Wang is currently an undergraduate student at University of Pennsylvania studying Computer Science. Before getting admitted to University of Pennsylvania, Clarice was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program in Summer 2020.
“The AI Scholars program positively influenced my college preparation and academic journey. As my first summer program in AI, it offered me invaluable project experience, enriching my understanding of AI and ML. This experience not only enhanced my college applications but also sparked a deeper curiosity in these fields. Following this, I ascended to a fellowship role, allowing me to share my insights with my school community through presentations at programming and AI clubs. This opportunity further honed my leadership skills and solidified my passion for AI, shaping my academic path significantly.”

Cole’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Biochemistry at University of Cambridge
Cole Nesselson is currently an undergraduate student at Brown University studying Chemical Biology and Environmental Studies. Before getting admitted to Brown University, Cole was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program in Spring 2021.
“Through demonstrating how useful programming and AI are in understanding large biological datasets, the Inspirit AI program made me eager to pursue programming in college to support my interest in biology.”
“The AI Scholars project I did informed my interest in analyzing genomic data during my fungal genomic research last summer. [As a student at Brown,] I have taken a course called Phage Hunters which dealt with isolating a bacteriophage, which is a virus that infects bacteria, sequencing its genome, and then analyzing its genes (similar to the Inspirit AI project I worked on). I worked on fungal genomics research for designing more sustainable biofuels.”
Claire’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at Cornell University
Claire McHugh is currently an undergraduate student at Cornell University studying Computer Science. Before getting admitted to Cornell, Claire was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program.
“During the Inspirit AI course, I was on the AI + Finance project group where we coded a machine learning algorithm using Natural Language Processing that analyzed financial tweets made by corporations in order to predict stock trends. This was interesting because not only did it give me an overview of applications of AI in the business marketplace, it also introduced me to high-level coding in the real world and how AI can translate human language in words into data that it can perform mathematical analysis on.”
“Before taking the course, I knew I was already interested in computer science. As a current computer science major at Cornell, this course is the reason I chose AI to be my concentration for my major. This opportunity opened my eyes to how we can use artificial intelligence in tackling tough problems, making smart decisions, and driving innovation in different fields”
Sofia’s Journey from Inspirit AI to Computer Science at University of Cambridge
Sofia Cornu is currently an undergraduate student at University of Cambridge studying Computer Science. Before getting admitted to University of Cambridge, Sofia was a student in the Inspirit AI Scholars program in Summer 2021.
“The AI scholars program provided a great introduction to machine learning and worked very well as a springboard to then continue doing research and learning about the field. Having touched base with some machine learning concepts meant I was able to carry out more personal projects with an ML component which I could then talk about in college personal statements and interviews.”
“Having completed the AI Scholars project has helped my career journey as carrying out the melanoma detection project made me realise how much more I enjoy working on a software application if it is designed with a social purpose/ to help people. This has shaped the sorts of projects I have chosen to work on within my studies, as well as the internship positions I have applied for, as I will actively seek out projects which are designed to help people in some way.”
