High School Research Opportunities
In high school, we all look for a lot of research opportunities to help us stand out from the crowd and help us gain more experience in new things that interest us. But finding them can sometimes be a workload. So here are some summer research programs related to Science, Engineering, and Math to people interested in STEM a chance to get ahead and learn more about things they are interested in. So here below are some different research related programs that you can do as a high schooler. These can help better the chances of you getting into a good college/university.
UC Cosmos Program
The UC COSMOS program, also known as the University of California California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science, is a summer program designed for high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). COSMOS provides a variety of courses and research opportunities based on Biology, Chemistry, Technology, Computer Science, and even Artificial intelligence. The program curriculum includes classroom instruction, laboratory experiments, field trips, and group projects to enhance student's understanding and application of STEM concepts. This program is a 4 week residential program based on a University of California school. You do have to apply for this program though.
Inspirit AI + X Research Project
The program with prior programming experience allows students to collaborate with AI research mentors. You can learn to create your own AI Project with the help of mentors guiding you through each step of the way. By the end, they complete an independent AI project, a research proposal, and a final research paper/article. This will help you gain a huge insight into the world of AI and also help you create your own research project.
Santa Barbara High School Programs
UC Santa Barbara has 2 programs for high school students called “Summer Research Academics” and ‘Research Mentorship Program.” Both of these are Summer programs for high schoolers but with different types of difficulty. They are both made for high schoolers to take.
This is a project-based summer program run by UC Santa Barbara to help students expand their research into areas of STEM, Humanities, and Social Science. In this program, the students take a university course from which they choose a research topic from a provided track sheet. From there they conduct their own research under the guidance of a teacher. This is a great opportunity for high schoolers interested in STEM, Humanities in Social Science. This program will help you create maybe your first research project and provide a pathway to make even more in the future. It can also be really beneficial for your college applications.
The Research Mentorship Program is a very highly competitive program for really high achieving high school students. In this program, they work with a mentor to work on a research project with university level research. Getting accepted into this program can be a huge step for college.
UC Berkeley’s The Summer Youth Intensive Program
This a orogram run for people passionate in the areas of science such as chemistry, biochemical chemistry, material science and related fields. It is a onsite internship that is 9 months remote and 4 weeks onsite(UC Berkley). You work with mentors in things such as data analysis, and conducts lab experiments, and attend seminars and meetings. This program is although highly selective with only the top 10% getting selected. AP Chemistry is generally something good to take before applying. This program can help you maximize your future success later on in college.
UCLA Summer Sessions
UCLA Summer Sessions offers an exciting and diverse range of courses for students looking to make the most of their summer. This program takes place in the summer from june to August.
UC Irvine’s Math ExpLR Summer Research Program
This is a 6 week mathematical biology program run by UC Irvine. Students who apply for this work with college students to work on a computational biology research project together. They also attend skill making workshops to help them do things such as mathematical research, mathematical modeling, writing, and presenting research projects. This program is offered by UC Irvine over the summer to help high schools students learn more about mathematical biology and have something to add to their list of high school research.
Stanford Summer Session
Stanford Summer Sessions provides high school students with an enriching summer experience at Stanford University which lasts 8 weeks long during the summer. The programs offer a wide range of college-level courses across various disciplines, taught by Stanford faculty. Students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop critical thinking skills, and collaborate with peers from around the world. The residential component allows participants to experience campus life and engage in extracurricular activities.
