Research Science Institute: The Foundation of the World Database

Research science is a fundamental part of our major discoveries, and even our daily lives. It aims to solve multitudes of problems both in the universe around us, and the unreachable box of cereal on top of your fridge. You may have started doing this since when you were a toddler, or when there's one strand of hair left on your head. Research science is used everywhere, and is for everyone.

When do we mostly use Research Science?

Research science, when done professionally, requires following strict methodologies to efficiently carry out observations, statistics, and experiments, which also usually need special equipment. We use these methods to find unsolved mysteries about our world and how we can find a solution, or improve them. Finding out how to make electric airplanes for common use, or the cure for diseases, research science is used for all scientific enigmas. One of the programs that explores these concepts is the Research Science Institute.

What is the Research Science Institute?

The Research Science Institute, or RSI, is a summer program that allows selected high school students around the globe to take part in a six-week experience in a scientific research enrichment. The RSI supports enrollers to make original investigations and research through papers, presentations, and projects.

What projects can I work on?

There are various projects you could work on. You may research the likelihood that an individual would develop alcoholism, or the easiest way to calculate the amount of a small object in an area (such as: how many blades of grass in a field?). The possibilities are endless, and your research and data contributes to the world's information.

What will I be able to explore?

The RSI is open to students' interests, and likes to host activities that reflect those. You can participate in a variety of field trips to science and technology facilities, and even travel out of the country to see historical monuments in places such as Greece.

How do I apply?

To get into RSI, you must complete an application form that includes your academic records, essays that relate to research science, and other extracurricular activities. The Research Science Institute usually targets high schoolers who have good academic achievements, and who have an interest in STEM. It is also suggested that you have letters of recommendation from other teachers, and have good SAT or ACT scores.

What can I get from it?

The Research Science institute program allows you to develop multiple knowledge abilities, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork with others. It also lets you get hands-on experience with individual research under the guidance of mentors in the RSI program.

The program also is hosted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, one of the highest rated colleges in the United States. This means that colleges will take a keen interest in you for being chosen from this program, and it will allow you to expand your connections.

RSI is a free and exemplary science program geared towards high school students, who are interested in training in an environment with the best faculty and technological facilities, to advance their interest in science and research. While being able to connect with peers across the globe during the six week summer program in MIT, students also learn about the different skills and cultures that are explored within the cohort.
