Stanford AI4ALL: What Is It and Why You Should Get Involved
The world today and in the future is becoming increasingly reliant on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications, which is why it is imperative that today's generation of students gain a strong understanding of AI and its potential. Stanford AI4ALL is a program specifically designed to address this need by providing high school students with the opportunity to explore AI through various different experiences.
In this blog post, we will discuss what AI4ALL at Stanford really is as well as why you should get involved. We will also be sharing some additional Stanford AI programs if you are not eligible for AI4ALL.
What is Stanford’s AI4ALL Program
Stanford’s AI4ALL program is hosted by Stanford University Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). The program is open to current freshmen (rising sophomores) in high school. The program aims to increase diversity and inclusion in the field of AI by providing students with access to resources, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.
What Does Stanford’s AI4ALL Consist Of?
The AI4ALL program at Stanford is a three-week long program that covers a range of AI topics, allowing participants to delve into cutting-edge concepts and explore the potential of AI to enhance society. Emphasizing personal growth, the program includes career development workshops and mentoring opportunities. Through collaboration with the Stanford AI Lab, students gain hands-on experience with real AI research projects at a young age, allowing for them to apply theory in a practical setting. Stanford AI4ALL also aims to foster a close-knit community among the participants and mentors. Participants also have opportunities to engage with professionals in the field to learn about different cutting-edge developments in the field of AI in the modern world. When to Apply
The application details and dates have not yet been announced for the upcoming program in 2024. However, based on 2023’s deadlines, we will provide an estimate as to when applications will be due and key deadlines.
The dates of the program itself are generally from the last week of June to the second week of July. There are three types of applications you can opt to select for this program: early application, regular application, and extended application. The deadline for the early application generally is around the beginning of February, regular application is generally around the third week of February, and the extended application is generally around the second week of March, so be on the lookout for updates on their website! Qualified candidates will be informed of their application outcome by May 1st.
Requirements
Some requirements for the AI4ALL program at Stanford are that you must be a current freshman in high school (9th grade). The application itself also requires the submission of a letter of recommendation. Since the program is online, there are some requirements in terms of technology that needs to be available while attending the program.
To fully engage in the program, participants are required to have the necessary technological tools. A computer with the capacity to run the latest versions of internet browsers, plug-ins, and software is essential for daily access. A high-speed internet connection is also a requirement, which ensures undisturbed participation in interactive audio and video components. To facilitate communication during live class sessions, participants must have a functional webcam. For those utilizing laptops with built-in microphones, the use of headphones is recommended to prevent echo or feedback. Alternatively, participants are encouraged to opt for a USB-based headset with a microphone to ensure clear audio quality.
Creating an optimal learning environment is equally important, and participants are advised to select a comfortable, distraction-free space for live class meetings for effective interaction with both instructors and fellow students, especially when on camera.

About Inspirit AI
AI Scholars Live Online is a 10 session (25-hour) program that exposes high school students to fundamental AI concepts and guides them to build a socially impactful project. Taught by our team of graduate students from Stanford, MIT, and more, students receive a personalized learning experience in small groups with a student-teacher ratio of 5:1.
