Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship

This Summer Internship is an intense training for high school students that teaches and exposes them to fundamental and advanced cardiothoracic surgery and technical skills (e.g., knot tying, dissection, suturing, coronary artery bypass graft, and cardiac valve replacement). Stanford University faculty, surgical residents, and staff lead and oversee lectures and laboratory sessions. The emphasis of this course is on interactive learning to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of heart and thoracic illness and surgery.

  2. Allow for hands-on experience of basic surgical techniques.

  3. Experiment with major cardiothoracic surgical methods.

Genomics Research Internship Program at Stanford (GRIPS) 

GRIPS is a twenty-hour, eight-week intense research experience for high school students. Participants in the program will spend the summer in a research laboratory doing genomes research under the supervision of a lab mentor. GRIPS students must commit to participating for the entirety of the program. This experience will last four hours per day, five days per week, for the duration of the internship. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

While the program's major focus is an intensive research experience, GRIPS students are also encouraged to engage in all other program activities such as: 

  1. Weekly journal clubs

  2. Panels and workshops on biomedical research career paths

  3. Regular meetings with your research mentor

Pediatrics Internship Program at Stanford

The Pediatrics Internship Program at Stanford (PIPS) is a 6-week program in which high school students from all backgrounds learn about science, medicine, and research while working on a research project with Stanford faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and researchers. PIPS's objectives are as follows:

  1. Encourage students' interest in biological sciences and medicine.

  2. Teach students how to conduct scientific research and provide them the opportunity to work on research projects.

  3. Increase the variety of students pursuing medical and scientific occupations.

Stanford Clinical Science, Technology and Medicine Sumer Internships

The Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institute (SASI), is a place where education meets innovation and curiosity knows no boundaries. Set off on a trip that will change your perspective on clinical medicine, science, and technology.

Stanford STaRS Internship Program

Every year, a group of brilliant young people interested in healthcare and research work at the Stanford laboratory. These interns will work with seasoned clinician/scientist mentors and peers who will challenge, motivate, and encourage them as they take their initial steps toward a career in healthcare.

For excellent high school and college students interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical/biological sciences, the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery provides a 7-week summer internship. This competitive program gives students the opportunity to work on a research project in a specific subject, exposing them to cutting-edge biochemical, molecular, and analytical techniques. This is not your typical resume-building opportunity; it is free for students who want to gain a head start and hands-on instruction.

SHTEM Summer Internship Program

Every summer, the Stanford Compression Forum offers its annual SHTEM internship program. This internship is designed to provide students with early exposure to research that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries. Students will be assigned to complex projects that will capitalize on their current interests and talents while also introducing them to new ones. Students, teachers, and staff from the Stanford Compression Forum and its connected groups will mentor projects. Themes will include, among other things, information and communication science, engineering, the arts, linguistics, psychology, biology, neuroscience, computer science, technology, philosophy, and design. There is no participation charge, but students must commit to staying for the duration of the program. Program Goals:

  1. Provide high school and CC students early exposure to cutting-edge research in an academic environment

  2. Introduce students to the diversity of research topics pursued in engineering

  3. Emphasize the inseparability of the humanities and the human element from research in STEM

SLAC Summer Internship Program

Participants in this program include high school students (age 18 and above), undergraduate and graduate students. These internship programs are designed to give interns challenging, real-world job experiences. Depending on department requirements and school schedules, interns can work for up to twelve weeks from May to September. All interns must be legally permitted to work in the United States and must pass a minimal background check. Summer Internship roles might vary depending on the needs of the specific department. Some occupations may entail: 

  1. Entry-level technical or administrative activities that need fundamental knowledge or a willingness to learn

  2. Mid-level technical or administrative duties requiring specialized knowledge and abilities

  3. High-level jobs that need significant scientific or engineering training

Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging Summer Research Internship

The Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI) is dedicated to developing AI research in medicine for the public welfare, as well as promoting health fairness and healthcare excellence. In this spirit, they are pleased to announce the introduction of their annual Summer Research Internship for high school students interested in learning about the technical and clinical applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

They hope to inspire and empower the next generation of AI pioneers in medicine through a combination of lectures on AI in healthcare principles, hands-on research projects, and mentorship activities with Stanford experts throughout this two-week virtual program. For interested program participants, an extended independent research internship opportunity may be provided. The main objective is to motivate students to create creative AI solutions to improve human health. 

Stanford Clinical Summer Internship

The Stanford Clinical Summer Internship (CSI) is a program meant to empower and excite diverse learners as they dig into the art, science, and joy of practicing medicine. It is open to rising high school juniors (age 16 or older), seniors, and college pre-med students. Participants will develop clinical skills and knowledge in a wide range of specializations, as well as insights to assist them plan for a medical future. The program is profoundly diversified and one-of-a-kind, with skills workshops, interactive lectures, and hands-on activities in a range of disciplines. Large and rotating small group breakout sessions are led by top-tier Stanford faculty doctors and researchers, as well as medical and physician assistant students who provide insights into their demanding but rewarding medical careers. Stanford offers three distinct modalities to cater to each individual's needs and preferences.
