Stanford Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship
About
This is a course for high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in science and medicine, specifically in the cardiothoracic surgical anatomy and physiology. It will be an intensive two week course that will give interns knowledge of cardiothoracic surgery and its related technical skills. Interns will understand the principles, be provided hands-on practice of surgical skills, and practice key cardiothoracic surgical techniques. There will be lectures given by the Stanford University faculty and the surgical residents there.
Cost
The application fee is $95 USD. It is non-refundable. The program fee, as of 2023, is $5,500 USD. This covers snacks, lunches, and educational supplies.
Scholarship or financial aid is available.
Housing
Stanford will not provide campus housing. Students who reside near the campus are given preference in the application process. If students live outside the area and are accepted, they will be responsible for housing under adult supervision during the internship.
Requirements
Applicants have to be at least 16 years on the first day of the program. The only exception is if they are below the age of 16, but they are a junior (11th grade) in high school

Additional Information
There are two different start dates. You may pick which one best fits your schedule.
Session timings are 9 am to 4 pm (PST), Monday through Friday. 9 am to 12 noon, students will attend lectures on cardiothoracic anatomy, physiology, and surgery. Skills session will be 1 pm to 4 pm. Skill demonstrations are present. Students receive feedback on their performance.
Genomics Research Internship Program at Stanford (GRIPS)
About
GRIPS is a research experience for high school students. They will be placed in a laboratory and conduct genomics research under the lab mentor. Along with the research experience, students are also expected to participate in other activities of the program. This includes weekly journal clubs, panels and seminars on careers in biomedical research, and check in meetings with lab mentors.
The program is for twenty hours each week for eight weeks. IIt will be four hours a day from 9 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday.
Cost
There is no fee to apply or participate! Scholarship or financial aid is available for those who require summer jobs to meet personal financial obligations.
Requirements
Applicants must be local residents residing ini Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, or Santa Cruz counties.
Applicants must be 16 or older by the first day of the internship.
Coursework in relevant subjects such as biology, chemistry, or computer programming must be completed.
Students must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.

Pediatrics Internship Program at Stanford (PIPS)
About
Students complete a research project. The goal of PIPS is to promote interest in biological sciences and medicine, teach how scientific research is performed, and increase diversity of students in medicine and the sciences.
Students are paired with a faculty mentor and research lab to complete a research project. They spend 23 hours a week working on the project, and they are able to present the project in the Poster and Family Symposium at the end of the program.
Students also spend 6 hours per week in cohorts learning about conducting research, exploring career paths, developing leadership skills, and preparing for college applications.
Cost
There is no cost for participation! Admitted students in need of financial aid may be eligible for a $3000 stipend.
Housing
Stanford will not provide campus housing. Students will be responsible for housing under adult supervision during the program.

Stanford Medicine Clinical Summer Internship (MEDCSI)
About
This is a course for rising high school juniors and seniors and premed students who are all interested in medicine. There are workshops and sessions taught by Stanford faculty. Hands-on experiences include performing ultrasounds, dissections, suturing, splinting, and visiting the emergency life flight station and the free clinics of Stanford.
The program is for two weeks.

Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging Summer Research Internship
About
Students in this program participate in lectures on AI in healthcare, hands-on research projects, and mentoring activities with Stanford researchers. This is a virtual, two-week program.

There is no coding, AI, or data science experience necessary.
SLAC Summer Internship Program
About
Participants are provided with real-world experience. Positions vary because of the specific needs of an individual department.

SHTEM: Summer Internships for High Schoolers and Community College Students
About
SHTEM stands for Science, Humanities, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Students work on projects with themes of engineering, the arts, linguistics, psychology, biology, neuroscience, computer science, technology, philosophy, and design.
The goal of the program is to expose students to research, introduce the diversity of research topics in engineering, and emphasize the inseparability of the humanities and the human element from research in STEM.
Participants spend most of the time conducting research. Materials are sent if needed. Communication with mentors and group members is required. Participants must expect 30-40 hours of work a week.
The program is fully virtual.
Cost
The application fee is $50 USD. There is no cost to participate. Scholarship or financial aid is available to those who demonstrate need.
Requirements
Participants must be high school junior or senior in the 2023-2024 school year or a community college student.
For the 2024 program: If participants are a high school junior or senior, they must be at least 14 years old by June 13, 2024. Community college students must be within the ages of 17-21 by June 13, 2024.
Stanford STaRS Internship Program
About
Individuals interested in healthcare and research are encouraged to apply. They work side-by-side with experienced mentors and peers who will challenge and inspire them on their path towards a career in healthcare.
Prior lab experience is not required. Applications from diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
Requirements
Applicants have to be at least 16 years at the time of the program to apply. Students under 18 require signed parental consent forms to work in the laboratory. Interns are expected to commit the entire 7-week internship.

Stanford Clinical Science, Technology, and Medicine Summer Internships
About
This is a course for high school students, juniors and seniors, and pre-medical undergraduate students who are interested in STEM, medicine, research, and healthcare design, specifically on Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.
There are both in-person and virtual options.
There are three experiences available:
SASI Foundations: This is for two weeks, and it introduces clinical medicine. There is hands-on experience and capstone project experience.
SASI Clinical Skills: This is for one-week, and it is focused on clinical experience and patient centered care.
SASI Virtual: This course is online for two-weeks. Interactive sessions, collaboration, and simulation are available.
Each of these programs have different start and end dates.
