Entering the Future with AI: Become an Innovative AI Student

AI has been gaining popularity recently through its creative breakthroughs and the future will be filled with new ideas and innovations with AI. Becoming an AI student is a great way to learn more about AI and gain important skills when entering the future full of AI!

In this blog post, we will discuss what it means to be an AI student and how to become one as well!

What is AI?

AI, also known as Artificial Intelligence, is a machine’s ability to perform similar functions to the human mind such as learning, problem solving, perceiving, and more! AI has become a very popular subject over the past few years with the creation of ChatGPT and other inventions like the Google Glasses which use AI.

We have entered a world full of AI where we can use it during our everyday lives to help assist us or to use it for fun. AI consists of multiple subtopics such as machine learning, robotics, and natural language processing. AI can be applied in multiple applications whether it is health, engineering, finance, or more!

What Does it Mean to Be an AI Student?

An AI student is someone who is studying the field of AI. Whether it is learning about the different applications and algorithms of AI, or participating in projects while using AI, you are an AI student. An AI student is exposed to various math courses and programming languages like Python when studying and applying AI to projects.

AI students can be anyone who is interested in learning more about AI or who is well-skilled in the field of AI and is participating in research projects to use it to solve real-world problems!

How to Become an Innovative AI Student

Becoming an innovative AI student may seem almost impossible at first, but with determination and hard work, anyone can be an innovative AI student.

BUILD ON MATH AND PROGRAMMING SKILLS

Building on one’s math and programming skills is a great way to start becoming an AI student and growing as one. AI is built upon math and coding, so these skills will pave an easier path for one to take when growing as an AI Student. Programming languages such as Python is a wonderful language as Python is used a lot when coding with AI.

Even if one’s math and programming skills are not as advanced, there are many ways to improve upon them. Continuing to practice skills is a wonderful way for AI students to build a strong foundation to learn and grow. Although it is good to have strong math and programming skills, one does not have to be the best to be an innovative AI student. An innovative AI student can be anyone no matter their experience nor level in computer science and math.

In addition to learning how to program, practicing one’s coding skills while implementing AI is another great way to gain more experience in the field of AI. Not only does it allow one to gain real world experience interacting with AI but it also exercises one’s critical thinking and problem solving skills. Completing side projects for one’s entertainment and to practice different applications of AI is also a wonderful way to build one’s math and programming skills.

TAKE INFORMATIVE COURSES

There are many informative courses online and in-person about the applications of AI. The ones we have listed are only a few out of the endless list.

Inspirit AI

Inspirit AI offers summer and spring research mentorship programs in computer science where AI students can explore the different applications of AI. Inspirit AI offers programs for both new and returning students no matter their experience in programming.

For new students to Inspirit AI, AI Scholars is a live online program that takes place over the summer and spring for high schoolers over 10 sessions (25 hours) that is open to programmers of any experience. AI students have the opportunity to explore more about the applications of AI in real world situations. Mentors who are Stanford alumni and/or graduate students specializing in AI guide students through participating in an AI project.

For returning AI students with experience in programming, 1:1 Project Mentoring and Deep Dives are two programs that students can participate in.

For 1:1 Project Mentoring, there is a 10 hours option and a 25 hours option. It connects AI students with an experienced AI mentor to help them guide their way through their research project about AI + X. Students have the opportunity to complete an independent AI project, research proposal, and final research paper/article.

Deep Dives are project-based courses that continue to build graduate-level AI skills. AI students have the opportunity to explore applications of machine learning models of their topic of interest, learning and applying their applications of AI to real world problems.

edX

edX is an online program in which anyone can participate in and experience, practice, and apply one’s programming skills. Participants will have the opportunity to learn new knowledge and skills in a variety of ways such as engaging in video lectures, participating in interactive elements, and viewing dynamic graphics.

In addition, participants will be able to demonstrate and practice their knowledge through virtual environments, open response assessments, practice quizzes, and more! Participating in edX courses transforms how one thinks and does as the skills transfer directly into the real world whether it be in school or work! AI Students can participate in this program to help them learn more about AI and improve their skills.

CalTech

Caltech offers an AI Machine Learning Bootcamp that spans over 6 months where participants are able to participate in industry projects and learn new applications of AI and Machine Learning (ML). This online bootcamp is a great way for AI Students to grow with the help of Caltech campus faculty and peer interaction. Throughout the bootcamp, AI students will participate in 25+ hands-on projects and have the opportunity to learn from distinguished Caltech instructors and global AI and ML experts. Not only will students be able to improve their AI, programming, and math skills, but they will also be able to make new connections which will greatly help in the future!

PARTICIPATE IN AI HACKATHONS

Devpost is the home of many AI hackathons online and in-person. Devpost inspires many AI students to develop and build amazing software. A wonderful, inclusive community has been built and is continuing to grow where AI students can improve their craft and connect with peers with similar interests. Devpost hosts most of the world’s hackathons on their platform where AI students can continue to grow to become an innovative AI student.

Hackathon IO allows participants to host their own hackathon, participate in hackathons, and network with peers with similar interests. AI students have the opportunity to further their skills in AI and computer science by participating in such hackathons. Students can also host hackathons for other students to participate in. AI students can also network with other AI students with similar interests and build connections that spread far and wide.

Become an Innovative AI Student

As we are entering the future filled with AI, becoming an innovative AI student allows many opportunities to open for individuals. Anyone can become an AI student no matter their age, gender, or disabilities. There are many ways to grow as an AI student and meet many peers who share the same interests!
