5 Architecture Summer Programs for High School Students

There are a variety of summer programs involving architecture and design for high school students. In this blog post, we will be sharing 5 of these such programs. However, students are always encouraged to search for more opportunities that can be beneficial to building their knowledge and skill set.

Smithsonian Student Travel - New York & Denmark: Architecture & Sustainability Design

Taking place from July 29 to August 11, 2024, this 2 week long program takes students on a journey from New York to Denmark to observe designs in architecture in different locations. It is a very fun and educational experience for students to spend part of their summer while learning about topics they are interested in.

Dates: July 29 - Aug 11, 2024

Tuition: $7,990+ (travel)

Cornell AAP Introduction to Architecture Summer Program

Hosted on the Cornell University campus, this program is from June to July, and the application deadline is in May. Both undergraduates and high school juniors and seniors are eligible and can gain credits from the courses they take. Made for beginners, students can work hands-on in studios and workshops and attend lectures taught by Cornell faculty.

Tuition: 1,680+

UCBerkeley embARC Summer Design Academy

Taking place in July 2024, students have the opportunity to visit and experience UCBerekeley’s campus while learning about architecture and sustainable design. The program involves one-on-one feedback with instructors, group projects, and field trips. It is centered around environment design, and students gain a certificate upon completion. This program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Dates: July 1-26, 2024

Tuition: Depends

Application: April 15, 2024 (final deadline, currently open)

Texas A&M Camp ARCH

Taught by the School of Architecture, this summer program is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For the applications, students must write an essay and have a letter of recommendation. Acceptances will come out in May. Students choose one area of focus during the program: architecture, construction science, or landscape architecture and urban planning.

Dates: July 8-13, 2024

Tuition: $1,500

Applications: Coming January 2024

Build SF Summer Design Institute

This is an online program accessible for many students. In addition to learning on multiple design platforms, they receive one-on-one mentoring, feedback, and group assignments. Students are introduced to 3D modeling, animation, and more. It usually takes place in 2 sessions, one in June and one in July.
