AI in Today's Society: Its Impact on the World
In today's society, the word AI is thrown around so often. Learn more about what AI is and its current application in the real world.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
Before evaluating the impact of AI on our world, it is important to understand what artificial intelligence actually is. According to BuiltIn, “AI is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.”
More specifically, for a machine to have intelligence, it must be able to adapt and improvise in new environments, as well as generalize its knowledge and apply it to unfamiliar situations.
What is the Impact of AI on Today’s Society?
The impact of AI on today's society has been growing exponentially, which has consequently caused a demand for more professionals with these computer science skillsets. Because of the growing demand for AI in today’s society, AI is now being used and developed in all fields. AI will be woven into fields beyond technology and programming as it continues to develops.
For example, I am interested in sustainability and solving our current climate crisis, and although my first thought was to study natural sciences and geography, I came to realize that the application of artificial intelligence and computers is almost more essential to making effective climate solutions.
AI knowledge will soon be a prerequisite to make impactful change in most industries.
How Do You Take Your First Steps in AI?
In the object detection course I took with Inspirit AI, I learned how to train and test my program and feed my computer with big data to make it as experienced and accurate as possible.
These basic skills and understanding of AI are essential for any future job or project. These skills are the foundation of what makes a good AI program.
The object detection course not only sparked my interest in the mechanisms of AI like neural networks and big data, but also in self-driving cars.
Courses are available for application on Inspirit AI’s website with a large range of projects to choose from. It is an amazing opportunity to learn the foundation of AI from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT graduates with a small group of high school students just like you, working together to build a project.
Inspirit AI courses accept students with no programming experience and explain everything in simple, clear terms. Remember, that no matter what field of study you're interested in, AI knowledge will always come in handy, and you never know if it might become a new interest!
Overall, as a young student with a thirst for knowledge that wants to help society flourish to its maximum potential, learning about AI is essential. Although it may seem difficult, and maybe even a bit intimidating, AI is for everyone, no matter your skill level.
